Padded headboards bring a sense of softness and comfort to any bedroom. You can easily change existing wooden headboards something lush and dramatic, or start from scratch with a hardwood panel. This simple project is one of the quickest and cheapest ways to add a designer touch to your sanctuary

Collect what you need to make a padded headboard from scratch, starting with a sheet of 3/4-inch plywood. Cut the wood to fit the area behind your bed or take your measurements for lumber supply store and ask them to cut it for you. Cut the foam to fit the face of wooden boards. The best way to cut the foam padding is with an electric razor. Explain the thickness of foam and wood headboard that you cut the fabric and batting to cover the headboard. It is best to cut more than you need, than to cut less. You can trim away excess when finished. The back of the headboard will be against the wall, so you will not see the fabric along the back.

Place the wooden sheet face up on the floor. Fasten padding for wood with a generous layer of spray adhesive and let it dry. Attach the batting and fabric without padding sliding around. To cover the headboard with fabric, place the fabric face down on the floor with batting on top. Center the padded wooden board on top of the batting. Beginning in mid-top, pull fabric and batting up and over the edge of the headboard and secure with a staple. If you start in the center, the edge of the padded headboard softer and smoother. Continue working your way around the edge of the headboard, stapling as you go. When you get to the corner, make a fold, as if you were wrapping a gift, short it safe and keep going. Place staples every 1/4 to 1/2 inches around the headboard.
